MADISON, Wisc. – Another day, another forum missed by Jill Underly. On Tuesday, Brittany Kinser answered tough questions, addressing the real problems facing Wisconsin’s education system at a Newsmaker Luncheon hosted by WisPolitics.com, the Milwaukee Press Club, and the Rotary Club of Milwaukee. Meanwhile, Underly continued her basement campaign.

Underly has REFUSED to participate in publicly televised forums hosted by nonpartisan groups. In fact, it flies directly in the face of a campaign promise Underly made during the primary (after she declined to participate in the WisPolitics forum with Brittany and Jeff Wright) to debate whoever made it to the general election.

It’s a tell-tale reminder that Underly does not believe that she is accountable to the people who put her in office – period. Underly has refused to debate the issues with the following organizations and/or outlets:

  • Marquette University Law School
  • One City Advocates in collaboration with a diverse coalition of 20 Madison area community organizations
  • WisPolitics.com/Rotary Club of Milwaukee/Milwaukee Press Club
  • WISN’s UpFront with Gerron Jordan and Matt Smith

Despite Underly’s refusal, Brittany Kinser STILL showed up and engaged in meaningful dialogue regarding her platform and her campaign. Kinser even agreed to rearrange her own busy schedule to participate in the virtual-only Wisconsin Public Education Network forum last week to ensure a conversation WITH Jill Underly would take place.

Bottom Line: Jill Underly is hiding her record from voters and refuses to be held accountable for her decisions as DPI Superintendent – such as the one to lower academic standards for Wisconsin students. Brittany Kinser continues to prove to Wisconsin voters that she will show up and answer the tough questions.
