MADISON, Wis. – Law Forward Director of Litigation Doug Poland reacted to the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s appointment today of a three-judge panel in Law Forward’s Congressional redistricting case:

“Law Forward is pleased that the Wisconsin Supreme Court has appointed a panel of three circuit court judges to hear a lawsuit we filed on behalf of our clients, including Wisconsin Business Leaders for Democracy and several individual Wisconsin voters, challenging Wisconsin’s congressional districts as an anti-competitive gerrymander. We filed the case in early July, invoking a Wisconsin procedural statute enacted in 2011, but never used until now to require the appointment of a panel of three state trial-court judges to hear a reapportionment case.

“Today, the Court rejected efforts to stonewall our case by attorneys for the Republican congressmen, the Wisconsin Legislature, and others, all of whom argued against the statute’s plain meaning. In addition, Justices Protasiewicz and Crawford rejected the congressmen’s baseless motions demanding their recusal, which we opposed. We have prevailed on all contested issues before the Supreme Court, and we look forward to arguing the case to the three-judge panel, prevailing on the merits, and delivering competitive congressional maps for the voters of Wisconsin.”

Law Forward represents Wisconsin Business Leaders for Democracy in this case and first filed the case July 8, 2025.
