(Madison) — Madison Vigil for Life and Pro-Life Wisconsin as well as other local and state-wide pro-life groups are planning a day of prayer, fasting and peaceful vigil for Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 1:30p.m. at the Wisconsin State Capitol in advance of the release of critical Wisconsin Supreme Court decisions.

In November, the Wisconsin Supreme Court heard oral arguments about whether the 1849 ban on abortions does in fact ban consensual abortions and is also considering a lawsuit from Planned Parenthood on whether abortion is a constitutional right in Wisconsin.

The 1849 ban went back into effect after the Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturned Roe v. Wade such that abortions ceased at abortion facilities across the state. Abortions resumed with the 1849 law still in effect after Attorney General Josh Kaul challenged this interpretation of the ban and Dane County Judge Diane Schlipper ruled that the abortion ban only applied to feticide, not consensual medical abortion. Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit would enshrine abortion as a constitutional right; a ban on abortion would be unconstitutional should the Wisconsin Supreme Court side with Planned Parenthood.

“We expect the Wisconsin Supreme Court to decide on these cases in early 2025 and are calling for a day of prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil on Saturday, March 1, at our state capitol so that the Wisconsin Supreme Court rules to protect all Wisconsin citizens, born and unborn,” said Laura Karlen from Madison Vigil for Life.

The peaceful vigil is scheduled for Saturday at 1:30p.m. on the State Street steps of the Wisconsin State Capitol. All Wisconsinites are invited to attend or pray and fast from home for this intention.

Next week, Madison Vigil for Life will coordinate the 40 Days for Life campaign, which will include a peaceful presence from 8a.m.-8p.m. every day except for Sunday from Wednesday, March 5, through Saturday, April 12, on the sidewalk in front of the east side Planned Parenthood abortion facility. This group has been coordinating 40 Days for Life vigils every fall and spring since 2008 and has conducted a peaceful presence on the sidewalks in front of Planned Parenthood every business day since 2011.

Across the country and around the world, 40 Days for Life campaigns like the one in Madison have saved 25,353 babies from abortion, closed 161 abortion facilities and led to the conversions of 268 abortion workers, who left their jobs.
