Madison, WI — Today, Collin McNamara officially announced his candidacy for Wisconsin’s Secretary of State. A UW-Stevens Point alum who grew up in Iola, Wisconsin, McNamara has been an active member of the Portage and Waupaca County Democratic Parties and an outspoken voice for positive, progressive change for over a decade.

Last November, McNamara ran for state senate against an entrenched Republican incumbent. He campaigned on bringing Wisconsin values of hard work, honesty, integrity, empathy, and respect back to Madison. Although McNamara lost his election, he overperformed in key areas in a largely Republican district and won the trust of people from all walks of life, a testament to his determination to defy the odds and listen to voters regardless of political affiliation.

“From Rhinelander to Racine, Wisconsinites deserve leaders who know the value of hard work, who will show up, and who will never quit no matter how difficult the odds may be,” McNamara said. “I am used to defying expectations, and I will never stop fighting for a better future for you.”

In addition to secretary of state, several other important statewide races are on the ballot next November, including the governor and lieutenant governor races. With McNamara joining the race, there will be a Democratic primary election on August 13, 2026, with the winner advancing to the November 3, 2026 ballot.
