The Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist Political Repression (MAARPR) firmly opposes the Trump administration’s decision to deploy federal police and National Guard troops to the streets of Washington, D.C. and potentially other cities across the country.
The targeting of Washington, D.C.—a city with one of the largest populations of Black people in the country–combined with the threat of deployments in other predominantly Black cities such as ours, exposes the racist underpinnings of this administration’s agenda. Federal forces have been deployed not to protect people but to terrorize with even more impunity. This is police terror under the guise of “law and order”.
We are all too familiar with outside law enforcement agencies being forced into our communities and terrorizing our people. We will never forget what the thousands of outside law enforcement officers being deployed in our city last year for the Republican National Convention resulted in – the murder of Sam Sharpe Jr.
In solidarity with the DC Alliance branch and the family of Sam Sharpe Jr., we are holding a picket outside of the District 1 building (749 W State. St.). This picket will take place tomorrow, August 13, starting at 4:30PM. Along with the expression of solidarity, we will be demanding that MPD expedite its response to open records requests to Sam’s attorney AND turn over the full case file and all RNC policing agreements without further delay.
Outside police don’t keep our communities safe. Whether in D.C. or during the RNC!
The struggle continues!
