On September 23rd, County Supervisor Jack Eckblad joined County Executive Crowley to present a citation to the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Foundation in honor of Muslim Heritage Month.

The citation honors Wisconsin’s “vibrant Muslim community that plays an essential role in forming and fundamentally enriching the unique character of our state and nation.” And acknowledges that “while Muslims make substantial contributions to virtually every aspect of society, including business, academia, law, healthcare, the military, and more, we acknowledge that the history and contributions of Muslim Americans in our country are often neglected or defaced by prejudice, discrimination, xenophobia, and islamophobia.”

Wisconsin Muslim Civic Foundation Executive Director Fauzia Qureshi and Treasurer Sheila Badwan were present to accept the County Board Citation and Proclamation from the County Executive.

Supervisor Eckblad stated:

“I am extremely proud to represent a district that includes amazing community leaders from the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Foundation, as well as the Islamic Society of Milwaukee. The unique contributions of the Muslim community to Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, and to our nation are so often overlooked. The WMCF’s commitment to fostering the bonds of community, to love as strength, and unity as power lifts up every neighbor in Milwaukee, and is inextricable from what makes Milwaukee County a fantastic place to live and raise a family.”

“This proclamation affirms the importance of recognizing the deep roots and vibrant presence of Muslim Americans in Milwaukee County and across Wisconsin,” said Fauzia Qureshi, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Foundation. “We are grateful to County Executive Crowley for his leadership and support of inclusive community celebration.”

A major culminating event—the Muslim World Culture Fair—will take place on Friday, July 25, at the Islamic Society of Milwaukee Community Center (8th & Layton). The fair will feature:

  • 18 cultural booths representing Muslim-majority countries
  • Food trucks and local vendors
