Supreme Court candidates Susan Crawford and Brad Schimel both released new TV ads slamming each other on cases involving child sexual assault.
Crawford’s campaign said the TV ad — the 18th of her campaign — will run statewide. According to AdImpact, she has laid down more than $15.8 million in ad time through the April 1 election.
Schimel’s ad is his ninth. He’s laid down nearly $7.1 million for the full campaign, according to AdImpact.
For the week that ends Monday, Crawford has $2.5 million in reservations, while Schimel has less than $1 million, according to AdImpact.
Crawford’s new ad opens with the narrator saying Schimel called it just a “one time thing” when he gave a “sweet bargain to a man who sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl.” The narrator adds the predator served just 18 months in prison and a few weeks ago was convicted of sexually assaulting a child again.
The narrator says that was “just one time Brad Schimel let a sex predator loose on our kids. So why would we ever give him another chance?” The narrator concludes the spot calling Schimel too “extreme for the Supreme Court.”
Schimel’s new spot features a woman who opens the ad saying parent’s natural instinct is the protect their children and it’s “terrifying that Susan Crawford would consider a four-year sentence appropriate for raping a child.”
Sitting on a couch, the woman says she can’t wrap her head around Crawford allowing a child rapist to “walk free,” calling it “disqualifying.”
She closes the spot, “I don’t think Susan Crawford deserves to wear the robe.”
