EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – This weekend Congressman Mark Pocan will join an in-person town hall meeting in Eau Claire, hosted by Opportunity Wisconsin and a coalition of grassroots groups, to answer questions from Congressman Derrick Van Orden’s constituents as their own member of Congress continues to dodge in-person town hall meetings.

The town hall comes just over a week after Van Orden and Republicans in Congress passed a bill that makes massive cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and other critical services that help children, veterans, and seniors access food, medical care, and other basic necessities. The bill backed by Van Orden forces massive cuts to health care and food assistance for working families and seniors to pay for more tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Congressman Van Orden has been invited to join Saturday’s town hall, however he has refused to join similar events hosted in his district in the past.

“Because of Congressman Van Orden’s vote in favor of these devastating cuts, his constituents have serious questions about the future of Medicaid, SNAP, and successful programs that help Wisconsin families succeed. While Van Orden has refused to hold in-person town halls, we’re grateful that Congressman Pocan is willing to have an open and direct conversation with Wisconsinites about what these harmful cuts will mean for them,” said Opportunity Wisconsin Program Director Meghan Roh. “We look forward to welcoming Congressman Pocan to Eau Claire and look forward to this important conversation.”

The town hall will take place on Saturday, May 31st, beginning at 10:00 AM. Members of the public can RSVP online here. Media interested in covering the event may RSVP to press@opportunitywisconsin.org
