Congressman Pocan will join Third District town hall as Van Orden continues to hide from tough questions, and Congresswoman Moore will attend Racine town hall to answer questions from Steil’s constituents on the Republican Tax Law
Next week, Opportunity Wisconsin will host town hall events in Prairie du Chien and Racine to raise awareness of the Republican Tax Law and its devastating cuts to healthcare, SNAP, and more. Congressman Mark Pocan will headline the town hall in Congressman Van Orden’s district, while Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski will join the town hall in Congressman Steil’s district.
Both Steil and Van Orden voted for the Republican Tax Law, which will leave more than 15 million Americans without health care, and make massive cuts to SNAP, to pay for new tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. Van Orden has refused to hold any in-person town hall meetings since taking office and both congressmen owe their constituents answers about why they voted for these cuts that will hurt working families, seniors, and kids.
“Congressmen Steil and Van Orden both voted for a bill that will rip health care away from more than 15 million Americans and force Wisconsinites to go hungry by gutting SNAP to pay for more tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. We hope they will take this opportunity to explain their vote to constituents and hear directly from them about how these cuts will make it tougher for them to succeed,” said Opportunity Wisconsin Program Director Meghan Roh.
The Racine town hall will take place on Tuesday, July 29th and members of the public may RSVP online here. The Prairie du Chien town hall will be on Thursday, July 31st, and attendees can RSVP here.
