WISCONSINThe Center for American Progress released a new report detailing Medicaid and CHIP enrollment by congressional district. This report highlights the significance of Medicaid and CHIP, serving as clear evidence of why congressional Republicans in Wisconsin should reverse their support for devastating health care cuts for so many of their own constituents. In addition to the new report, Center for American Progress created an interactive map and table to broaden the understanding of the House Republicans budget proposal’s impact.

Medicaid is a lifeline for more than 70 million Americans across the country, serving a wide variety of communities. House Republicans’ budget plans cut nearly a trillion from Medicaid, which would result in millions of children, seniors, and people with disabilities to lose coverage. If these cuts go through, the impact will be far-reaching and catastrophic. The health and wellbeing of our entire state is at stake.

“Republican lawmakers are turning their backs on their own voters as they seek deep cuts to Medicaid to fund tax breaks for the wealthy and big corporations,” said Joe Zepecki, Protect Our Care Wisconsin Director. “It’s undeniable that voters believe affordable health care should be a right — not a privilege. CAP’s new report makes this crystal clear: ripping Medicaid and CHIP away will destroy the health and well-being of our community.”
