WISCONSIN – Today, the House of Representatives will vote on their Trump-backed budget resolution, which includes slashing Medicaid funding. Republicans are plotting to cut Medicaid by at least $880 billion and up to $2 trillion in order to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and big corporations.

Medicaid is an essential pillar of our health care system with 72 million Americans currently covered through the program. That translates to one in five Americans who rely on Medicaid in order to get the care they need. The GOP plan to slash Medicaid would have a devastating impact on the most vulnerable Americans, including low-income seniors, children, veterans, people with serious disabilities, and people who take care of their children or elderly parents. Americans across party lines oppose cuts to Medicaid, and polling finds that a majority of Americans think the government should spend more on health care — not less.

Protect Our Care Wisconsin State Director Joe Zepecki issued the following statement:

“Wisconsinites are counting on Congress to do the right thing and reject these cuts to Medicaid. This Republican budget proposal jeopardizes health care for more than a million Wisconsinites – nearly one in four of us – including Republicans’ own constituents. With this critical vote on the future of health care, Republicans have the opportunity to show where they stand: with billionaires like Elon Musk or with hardworking families right here.”
