New ad campaign calls out Rep. Van Orden for his vote to repeal clean energy investments

Today, Protect Our Jobs, a new campaign defending clean energy workers and local economies across the country, launched a new television and digital ad condemning Rep. Derrick Van Orden for voting to kill 1,850 clean energy jobs in his district as House Republicans advanced a reconciliation bill that would gut critical clean energy investments.

The ad, titled Selling Us Out,” is part of a six-figure campaign that begins airing today in the La Crosse–Wausau media market on broadcast TV, cable, and streaming. It highlights how Rep. Van Orden turned his back on his constituents by voting against the thousands of good-paying jobs created in Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District through clean energy investments.

“Rep. Van Orden turned his back on his constituents today by voting against clean energy production and good-paying jobs in his district just to help pay for tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations,” said Kevin Self, senior advisor for Protect Our Jobs. “So we’re bringing the message directly to his constituents: Rep. Van Orden turned his back on you.”

Since the passage of clean energy tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), Wisconsin’s 3rd District has seen unprecedented economic growth in the clean energy sector:

  • 1,850 new clean energy jobs created across 3 major projects
  • $2.37 billion in new private investment in Wisconsin’s 3rd district

Major clean energy projects in WI-03 include:

  • Vista Sands Solar Project’s $2 billion investment in Portage County, expected to create 500 construction jobs and 50 operations jobs, powering over 20,000 homes
  • Alliant Energy’s $345 million battery storage systems, creating 700 construction jobs in Grant and Wood Counties
  • Wisconsin Battery Company’s $25 million manufacturing facility in Portage, employing 600 union workers to produce solar and wind batteries

The ad will run on broadcast television, cable, and digital platforms in the La Crosse –Wausau media market. View the ad here: https://youtu.be/VuYq5ZjAkAY
