MADISON, Wis – Today, Representatives Clinton Anderson, Darrin Madison, and Alex Joers, along with Senators Jeff Smith, Mark Spreitzer, and Dora Drake, introduced LRB-4601. This bill creates the Revitalize Wisconsin program, an initiative providing grants and direct services to local governments, dry cleaners, and private parties including innocent landowners to address the discharge of hazardous substances or existing environmental pollution. The program would increase public health and safety by boosting Wisconsin’s ability to address contamination.

The grants and services that would be provided by the Department of Natural Resources are designed to mitigate incidents of contaminants in residential and commercial areas, such as hazardous tire dump sites.

“A little more than a year ago, there was a fire at a tire dump site in Beloit that forced nearby residents to evacuate, so the need for this program is clear in my district, ” Representative Anderson said. “The Revitalize Wisconsin program will provide grants and assistance to help communities clean up existing pollution, keeping our environment and our people healthy.”
