MADISON, WI – The State Assembly held a special ceremony today to honor Wisconsin’s first responders, the law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel who keep their communities safe.
Each representative was allowed to invite one first responder from their Assembly district to attend the ceremony, and State Rep. Dave Armstrong (R-Rice Lake) was honored to name Chief Thomas Bischel of the New Auburn Area Fire Department as the 67th District’s First Responder of the Year.
“Chief Bischel has served with the NAAFD for 27 years, including almost 13 years as chief,” Representative Armstrong said. “His dedication to the department and the community is an inspiration to others, and I was proud to name him as First Responder of the Year.”
Following the ceremony, the Assembly floor calendar included several proposals related to public safety.
The Senate also met today to vote on, among other proposals, a workforce development package the Assembly passed earlier this year. This package includes several reforms for Wisconsin’s unemployment insurance system, as well as a proposal Representative Armstrong introduced, Assembly Bill 162. AB 162 requires state agencies that administer workforce development programs to make regular reports on the programs’ effectiveness.
AB 162 and the rest of the workforce development package will now go to Governor Evers for his consideration.
