MADISON… Majority Leader Tyler August (R-Walworth) released the following statement following Governor Evers’ annual State of the State speech this evening:

“I’m glad that Governor Evers highlighted Republicans’ efforts to cut taxes.  Wisconsin’s tax burden has now fallen to one of its lowest points ever recorded no thanks to Governor Evers.  In fact, Evers not only vetoed the largest tax cut in state history, but also vetoed legislation that would have eliminated taxes on all retirement income.  His efforts to hide his true record on taxes are an insult to the hardworking taxpayers of Wisconsin.  Assembly Republicans will continue to work to return the surplus to its rightful owners – the working families of our state.

What we didn’t hear from the governor tonight was a plan to address illegal immigration.  On the other hand, Republicans will look to partner with President Trump to ensure local law enforcement all across Wisconsin are working with the federal government to remove criminals from our communities that are here illegally.”
