MADISON, Wis.–Republicans on the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee voted today to remove 612 items from Governor Tony Evers’s budget. These were 612 common-sense proposals that address the needs of everyday Wisconsinites. Items such as increased child care funding, boosting funding for PFAS remediation, preventing property tax increases, investments in mental health services for veterans, and much more are all stripped from the budget. In response, Representative Bare (D-Verona) released the following statement:
“I’m appalled, but not surprised by Joint Finance Committee Republicans disregarding everyday Wisconsinites. When I was knocking doors last year talking to voters, the message I heard most was that people want us to work together to lower costs, fully fund our public schools and UW system, and protect our rights. Budgets are a reflection of values, and it is clear where Joint Finance Committee Republicans want to continue starving child care providers, public schools, and local governments, and harming the environment while cutting taxes for the wealthiest Wisconsinites.”
