MADISON, WI –The Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) Co-Chairs Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) and Representative Mark Born (R-Beaver Dam) made the following statement after today’s executive session:

“Today Joint Finance Republicans voted to invest in important government services while holding the line on spending.

“Our investment to modernize the WRS pension administration system not only serves our current annuitants but ensures the system will be able to serve Wisconsinites for years to come.

“We also provided funding for the Youth Volunteer Firefighter Training Program. This program provides grants for youth firefighter programs in volunteer fire departments, technical colleges, and high schools. Volunteerism in general is at an all-time low and this program provides communities with the tools to recruit and retain youth volunteers who are passionate about this critical service. It is vital that we continue to support efforts to promote programs like this across our state.

“Additionally, we provided funding for DSPS call center staff who work to help credential holders and the public navigate licensure platforms. This investment ensures the department can operate effectively and provide these critical services to professionals.

“Our action today demonstrates our commitment to right-sizing Gov. Evers’ budget and the continuation of responsible Republican budgeting.”
