Madison – Today, Representative Lindee Brill (R-Sheboygan Falls) and Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara (R-Appleton) began circulating a family-first bill which would ensure that schools make parents fully aware of their rights and leading role in making decisions about the health of their children. Representative Brill provided the following explanation:
“Currently, parents have a right to opt out of vaccination requirements when enrolling their children in school. However, many parents are unaware of this right or are unclear about how to obtain that waiver and feel pressured to make medical decisions for their children that they otherwise would not have. This bill ensures that schools make parents aware of the rights already afforded them by Wisconsin law and include information about the waiver from the vaccine requirement and a procedure for presenting it in any required pre-enrollment health-related forms.
“This bill does not change Wisconsin’s immunization laws or waiver criteria—it simply ensures that parents are informed of their rights at the time they are making enrollment decisions. By increasing transparency and accessibility, we reduce confusion, support parental rights, and create a more consistent process across the state.
“Decisions about a child’s health should be made by the child’s parents, not by school administrators.
“We are incredibly grateful to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for all the work he has done and is doing to Make America Healthy Again. A critical part of that effort is defending the leading role of parents in the health of their children, and I am proud to fight to put families first. I urge my colleagues to join me in standing up for the rights of Wisconsin parents.”
