MADISON, WI – Representative Alex Dallman released the following statement after the Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld Governor Tony Evers’ 400-year veto.
“Once again, our liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court continues to act as the second legislative body in our state,” said Representative Dallman. “Instead of upholding the Constitution, liberal justices decided today to maintain Governor Evers’ increase in property taxes for hardworking Wisconsinites for the next four centuries.”
In the 2023-25 biennial state budget, the Legislature passed a $325 per student increase in the revenue limit for school districts. Governor Evers used his partial-veto to eliminate a dash between 2023-24 and 2024-25, enacting a $325 per student increase in the revenue limit every year through 2425. This means that property taxpayers could be forced to pay billions of dollars in additional school district taxes without any say.
“Our liberal Supreme Court will stop at nothing to legislate from the bench and impose its own policy agenda rather than upholding our Constitution. Today’s decision sends a clear message to hardworking Wisconsinites: ‘Let them eat cake.’”
