MADISON, WI— Representative Alex Dallman (R-Markesan) released the following statement after the Wisconsin State Assembly voted to concur with Senate Joint Resolution 2 (SJR 2). With this action, the question of whether the Wisconsin State Constitution should be amended to require valid photographic identification to vote in Wisconsin elections will be placed on the upcoming spring election ballot in April.

“I am proud to vote in favor of letting Wisconsinites decide whether voter ID should be required to vote,” said Representative Dallman. “Voter ID has been state law for over 10 years, and we cannot afford the chance for activist Supreme Court justices to strip away election integrity in Wisconsin.”

2024 Pew Research Center national poll found that 81 percent of Americans support requiring a government-issued photo ID to vote.

“Support for requiring a photo ID to vote is overwhelmingly a bipartisan issue and should be a no-brainer. However, my Democratic colleagues continue to pay homage to the far-left extremes of their party by refusing to let the voters of Wisconsin decide if voter ID should be enshrined in our state constitution.”

SJR 2 passed with a vote of 54-45 with all Democrats voting no.
