MADISON, Wis. — Today, Representative Karen DeSanto (D-40) awarded Portage Assistant Chief of EMS Cody Doucette the First Responder of the Year Award for Wisconsin Assembly District 40. 

The First Responder of the Year Award was started in 2019 to recognize the courage and sacrifice of those who serve in emergency services. Nominated by members of their communities, State Representatives choose one individual to be honored for their service on behalf of their Assembly District. Following the award ceremony, Representative DeSanto released the following statement:

“For years, Cody Doucette has served the communities of Portage and the surrounding townships with honor and dedication. After working in emergency medical services for nearly 20 years, Cody joined Portage Fire Rescue as a captain in 2023.When Portage Fire Rescue took over EMS services for the region, Cody stepped up as Assistant Chief of EMS. 

“Cody Doucette uses his experience to give back to our local community and the state of Wisconsin. Beyond his work at Portage Fire Rescue, Cody serves as Fire Chief for the Village of Cambria Volunteer Fire Department. He also serves on the Rural EMS Committee at the Wisconsin DHS and the Professional Ambulance Association of Wisconsin Board of Directors, advocating for our community at the state level. 

“I am truly honored to represent Cody Doucette and other heroes like him. Cody exemplifies the dedication to community and selflessness that makes the 40th District great. I am proud to recognize Cody Doucette as the First Responder of the Year for the 40th District.”
