MADISON, Wis. — Today, Legislative Democrats introduced the Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package to help working families across our state. The three-bill package would lower costs for Wisconsinites by decreasing prescription drug prices through our Less for Rx agenda, reduce the property tax burden for low-income renters and homeowners by expanding the Homestead Tax Credit, and cut the cost of family grocery bills by enacting Healthy School Meals for All.

Representative DeSanto (D- Baraboo) released the following statement regarding the package:

“I am proud to stand with fellow representatives to introduce this package of legislation that truly answers many of the requests and needs I heard while knocking on doors throughout the 40th Assembly District. I pledged to listen to our citizens and use my experience to promote bipartisan, collaborative, and workable solutions to enable our youth and families to thrive.

“I am particularly proud to introduce Healthy School Meals for All to help working families statewide relieve strain on grocery bills and save more of their hard-earned money. Healthy School Meals for All ensures every student in Wisconsin enjoys a nutritious breakfast and lunch, eliminating the shame and uncertainty of school meal debt. This program is an opportunity to feed our kids and build healthier communities while boosting grades, saving money, and strengthening school nutrition programs across Wisconsin.

It is our responsibility to ensure the success and development of our children through nutritious meals and to increase access to affordable prescriptions and housing tax relief. The Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package is a great start to supporting our communities by answering their call to action to help reduce expenses and improve the lives of Wisconsin’s children, families, and seniors.”
