MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin State Assembly met this evening to debate the 2025-2027 Biennial Budget.
Representative Ben DeSmidt (D-Kenosha) shared the following statement:
“After on and off negotiations, canceled hearings, and a totally pieced together budget process, I’m appreciative of Governor Evers and Senate Democrats showing real leadership by bringing the majority party to the table to get a deal done. But, to be frank, this budget process has been anything but ordinary. Despite having nearly four months to engage in meaningful discussions with the Governor and legislative leaders, Republican leadership showed little urgency until just weeks before the June 30 deadline.
Now, days later, we’re passing a budget that fails to deliver real relief to our communities, working families, and public schools. This budget fails to meet the moment and does not reflect those who get up at dawn and work tirelessly to make ends meet.”
