Madison, WI – Today, the State Assembly honored first responders from across Wisconsin during the First Responder of the Year Award ceremony. Representative Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield) honored Lt. Caleb Lucht from Lake Country Fire and Rescue as the award recipient of the 97th Assembly District.

Lt. Lucht was nominated by Lake Country Fire and Rescue for his courage under fire, literally. In September 2024, Lt. Lucht responded with his squad to an apartment fire in the City of Delafield. After controlling the first-floor fire, Lt. Lucht learned of a trapped resident on the second floor directly above the apartment on fire. Taking swift action, Lt. Lucht took a few other firefighters and entered the resident’s apartment, braving fire and excessive smoke. Lt. Lucht successfully led the resident and her dog to safety by exiting through a window.

“Lt. Lucht is a great example of the professionalism and courage of our local fire departments,” said Rep. Duchow. “He led his team to take control of the situation and when he learned about the trapped resident, he didn’t hesitate to take action to save a life.”

After the conclusion of the ceremony, the Assembly proceeded with a regular floor session where several bills were passed. The legislation touched on the theme of public safety as well as improving the lives of first responders and law enforcement officers.
