Madison, WI – Madison, WI – Today, the Assembly unanimously passed a bill introduced by Representative Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield). Assembly Bill 8 codifies direct primary care (DPC) agreements into State law. This bill also clarifies that direct primary care agreements are not insurance, and are therefore not subject to Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) regulations.

Direct primary care agreements provide a more accessible alternative to healthcare than traditional insurance plans. Using a subscription model, most patients pay a monthly fee for access to the type of care you would see your primary doctor for – a scratchy throat or sore back – while using other insurance plans to cover emergencies and other expansive issues.

Rep. Duchow released the following statement upon the passage of AB 8:

“I am proud to support the direct primary care providers in my district and around the State. They provide a great service to their clients at an affordable price. Passing AB 8 was important to ensure that direct primary care will continue to be an option for patients. I will always support Wisconsinites’ access to high quality and affordable healthcare.”

Having passed the Senate earlier this year, AB 8 awaits approval from the Governor.
