Madison, WI – Last night, Governor Evers delivered his State of the State Address to the Wisconsin Legislature. Rep. Duchow (R-Delafield) released the following response:

“It would appear that the one thing both sides of the aisle can agree on is that taxation and inflation are a detriment to Wisconsin households. Families continue to struggle with their finances as they juggle rising grocery prices and overtaxation. Gov. Evers said he ‘plans to continue building an economy that works for everyone,’ but actions speak louder than words. As a state, we are still facing the same issues that the Governor addressed two years ago.

Thankfully, Wisconsin is in its best financial position of the last 50 years due to responsible spending by legislative Republicans. I look forward to working with the Governor, who announced his willingness to provide an additional $1.5 billion in tax relief for the middle class. While the Governor did address the tax reform championed by Republican legislators, I fear that the reality is that Gov. Evers will continue to call for funding excessive amounts of government overreach.

The Governor likes to brag about his record employment numbers, and claimed that he will continue to ‘bolster the state’s workforce and make state government work more efficiently’. However, nearly half of all new jobs in Wisconsin last year were government jobs – jobs in buildings that are currently sitting empty due to work-from-home orders, wasting taxpayer money and creating backlogs.

Although the Governor did not instill the utmost confidence in the Legislature, we are still prepared to stand with Wisconsin taxpayers to limit government, create solutions that work, and put more of your money back in your pocket.”
