Madison, WI – Today, State Representative Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield) voted with her colleagues in the Assembly to approve a public safety package that focuses on increasing penalties for certain crimes including reckless driving, intentional harm to a police or fire animal, and human trafficking. Additionally, the Assembly passed AB 91, which would require Milwaukee to place school resource officers (SROs) in its public schools. The bills passed today await consideration by the State Senate before reaching the Governor’s desk for final approval.

Rep. Duchow released the following statement upon the conclusion of the Assembly Floor Session:

“I am proud to support these bills that protect my constituents and give law enforcement the tools they need to keep our communities safe. Far too often one of our K-9s are intentionally harmed in the line of duty. As critical members of our law enforcement and fire departments, our K-9 units deserve the additional protections listed in AB 61 to ensure their safety while serving.

In a victory for parental rights, AB 74 passed the Assembly with unanimous support. AB 74 requires a school district to notify parents promptly if their child is identified as a victim, target, or recipient of sexual misconduct. As a mom, I need to know if one of my children was affected by sexual misconduct at school, and I would be furious if the school withheld that from me.

I am appalled that MPS is dragging their feet on the SRO issue, when MPD was called to their schools over 1,200 times this past fall semester. I voted for AB 91 because no student or parent should worry about violence in school. This is a common sense measure that is only being blocked by the anti-cop agenda of those running MPS.”
