MADISON, Wis- Today, Legislative Democrats introduced the Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package to support working families across Wisconsin. This three-bill package expands the Homestead Tax Credit to ease tax burdens on low-income homeowners and renters, reduces grocery costs for families with Healthy School Meals for All, and tackles high prescription drug prices through the Less for Rx agenda. Representative Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) issued the following statement in response:

“Today, I am proud to join my colleagues in introducing the Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package, a bold set of initiatives aimed at providing financial relief for working families across Wisconsin. This three-bill package is focused on reducing costs and increasing economic security for those who need it most.

“This package is a direct response to the concerns I’ve heard from constituents across the district. Families, seniors, and individuals living on fixed incomes are struggling with rising costs. The Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package will help provide the relief they need, ensuring they can live with greater financial security and dignity.

“I’m proud to introduce a series of measures that will directly support Wisconsin families. First, by expanding the Homestead Tax Credit, we will reduce the tax burden on low-income renters and homeowners and  make it easier for families to stay in their homes. Next, by addressing rising grocery costs with the Healthy School Meals for All initiative, we can help working families reduce their grocery bills while ensuring students receive the nutrition they need to succeed in school. Finally, by advancing the Less for Rx agenda to reduce prescription drug prices, we can make certain that no one in Wisconsin has to choose between getting the medications they need and putting food on the table.

“I am committed to taking action that improves the lives of Wisconsinites, and this package is a crucial step in making daily essentials more affordable for working families.”
