MADISON – Last week, five members of the Wisconsin State Legislature mailed a letter to U.S. Representative Scott Fitzgerald (R-CD5) to publicly condemn his support of House Republicans’ recent budget bill and urged him to take swift action against the proposed legislation. The authors of the letter include State Reps. Joan Fitzgerald (D-46), Karen Kirsch (D-07), Angelito Tenorio (D-14), Robyn Vining (D-13), and State Sen. Melissa Ratcliff (D-16).

Today, the legislators released the following statement:

“We are deeply troubled by the House GOP budget bill that was released over the weekend that increases costs and jeopardizes access to crucial government assistance. These proposals would strip Medicaid coverage, cut vital federal support programs, and defund public education.

“The uncertainty that has come from the first 100 days of the second Trump administration alone have left our constituents terrified of what’s going to happen to their families, their neighbors, and their loved ones. We’ve heard countless stories from the very people that would suffer as a result of these actions.

“On behalf of our constituents, we have released this letter to advocate for their access to health care, a quality education, and basic human dignity. We implore U.S. Rep. Scott Fitzgerald to take a stand and prioritize the needs of the people he was elected to represent.”
