MADISON – This evening, the Wisconsin State Assembly convened to deliberate the 2025-27 biennial budget. Representative Joan Fitzgerald (D-Fort Atkinson) released the following statement following the session:
“This Legislature was gifted with the ability to enact real change in Wisconsin. Governor Evers and countless others worked hard to put forth a budget that prioritizes our public schools, expands access to affordable child care, and invests in our state universities. Unfortunately, the budget passed this evening falls short of providing our communities with the support they rightfully deserve.
“The challenges facing our state require far more investment than this budget provides. In light of rising costs for everyday essentials, the urgent child care crisis, and the lack of affordable housing options, the least we can do is provide Wisconsin families with the ability to make ends meet.
“Tonight, I stood in solidarity with the hard-working people of my district, and voted against this inadequate bill. It’s time to get real and put the needs of our constituents first. Wisconsinites deserve better, and Assembly Democrats will never stop working to address the challenges facing us all. The fight isn’t over.”
