MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Today, Representative Goodwin joined colleagues to introduce the Safe Summer Bill Package. He cosponsored two bills; one would establish universal background checks for all gun sales, ensuring that individuals with a history of concerning behavior would not be able to purchase firearms and the other implements a 48-hour waiting period for those purchasing firearms, providing a necessary period to allow purchasers to make rational, informed decisions.
“Wisconsin’s families deserve to feel safe in their communities. I am proud to support this legislation as these measures are not about restricting freedom, but ensuring that those who wish to own a firearm are doing so responsibly and with consideration for their own safety and that of their fellow citizens. We can find common-sense solutions to reduce gun violence while respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens
Protecting people’s safety, without overriding their freedom, is a goal we can all support. Together, we can build a Wisconsin that is safer for everyone, while upholding the rights provided to us by our founders.”
