Madison, WI – Representative Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger) today voted in favor of the 2025-2027 Wisconsin State Budget. After the vote, he released the following statement:
“The 2025-2027 state budget is a product of negotiation and compromise. I remain deeply concerned about the trajectory of state spending, but I believe there are responsible, conservative wins that were delivered in this bill.
“Government is a deeply bloated institution, filled with too many bureaucrats. In this budget, the Legislature voted to cut 300 positions in state government, while maintaining the current position cap on UW System employees.
“I have always been a believer in putting more money back into the pockets of hardworking Wisconsinites. This budget does just that – it reduces taxes by nearly $1.5 billion and blocks $3.7 billion in tax hikes. Despite the fact that this does not compare to the $4.4 billion tax cut that Governor Evers vetoed last session, this tax relief is still significant and much needed.
“Additionally, this budget provides funding for the cost-to-continue increases for Medicaid and includes funding to address local healthcare needs across the state. Because of responsible Republican-led budgeting, the Legislature voted to utilize the federal window to establish a 6% hospital assessment that will go towards Medicaid payments and special education funding.
“The investments that we are making in special education is historic and significant. This funding will go towards helping students with disabilities by giving them the help they need.”
