Madison, WI – Representative Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger) voted in favor of passage of Senate Joint
Resolution 2 to enshrine Voter ID into the Wisconsin Constitution. After passing with a vote of 54-45, the
constitutional amendment has now passed two consecutive sessions and will appear before voters on the
April ballot as a statewide referendum question. Following today’s floor session, Rep. Gundrum issued
the following statement:

“I voted in favor of Senate Joint Resolution 2 because it is just common sense. We require proof of ID in
so many aspects of our daily lives: getting a grocery or fitness membership, buying alcohol or tobacco
products, and you even need an ID to get married. Why should voting be any different?”

“Time and again, I hear from my constituents about the need for reforms to our electoral process. People
want to have faith in our elections. This voter ID amendment helps accomplish this goal. It won’t change
any of the laws currently on the books, it only enshrines this requirement into our state’s Constitution. I
am happy to have voted in favor of SJR 2, which will now be turned over to the voters to decide.”
