MADISON, Wis. – Today, Governor Tony Evers delivered his biennial budget address. In the address he highlighted his plan and priorities for the people of Wisconsin, and declared 2025 “The Year of the Kid.” This plan includes commonsense investments in affordable housing, reliable transportation, safe schools, and consistent access to health and dental care. In addition, the plan seeks to lower out of pocket costs for Wisconsin families including investments in child care, and lowering prescription drug prices. In response, Assembly Democratic Assistant Leader Representative Kalan Haywood (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement:
“I applaud Governor Evers’ for creating a path for the legislature to follow to address the priorities of Wisconsinites. He has put forward a plan for Wisconsin that looks to the future, and seeks to establish stability in the wake of uncertainty on the federal level. So many of these proposals are commonsense, realistic solutions to improve lives of everyday, working Wisconsinites.
“Since the beginning of his tenure Governor Evers has always been responsive to legislators and our constituents. I appreciate him addressing issues that will help people statewide, but are also specifically impactful in the 16th Assembly District. Funding programs like Literacy Lab, Mentor Greater MKE, the State Government Apprenticeship Program, and Revitalize WI are steps that promote equity and create opportunity for people of all backgrounds. In addition, I applaud the governor for recognizing the need for sizeable investments in Milwaukee traffic calming projects.
“Keeping our kids healthy, educated, and safe are investments that will pay immeasurable dividends. I look forward to supporting these initiatives and hope the budget process is cooperative, and leads to outcomes that set Wisconsin up for long term success.”
