MADISON, Wis. – Today, Governor Tony Evers delivered his annual State of the State Address, highlighting his vision and priorities for the coming year. In response, Assembly Assistant Democratic Leader Representative Kalan Haywood (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement:
“Throughout his tenure, Governor Evers has shown his steady leadership, always prioritizing the people of our state, and especially the children of Wisconsin above all. His ability to put people over politics has strengthened our state and I’m excited for the opportunities that are before us.
“By addressing issues that impact our kids, we set up our success for the future. Lead contamination has been a danger to public health in Milwaukee, and across the state for far too long. Too many kids come to school hungry to the detriment of their development and educational opportunities. We cannot allow our kids to grow up in a society where gun violence is the norm. It is time take a commonsense approach toward preventative, proactive and pragmatic policy to address these issues. I applaud Governor Evers for sharing Assembly Democrats’ vision to improve our state, and proposing generational investments for our future. I look forward to working with him, and my legislative colleagues to make Wisconsin a better place to work, learn, and live.”
