MADISON, WI – Yesterday, the Republican controlled Joint Finance Committee voted to block critical funding for K-12 public education, all while raising property taxes.
Representative Hong released the following statement:
“Legislative Republicans have once again betrayed our students, educators, families, and public schools.
Amid growing federal cuts to education and already stretched classrooms, they provided no new school aids, shortchanged special education, cut youth mental health funding, and turned their backs on communities already forced to shoulder the burden for services the state refuses to fund.
Chronic underfunding of public education hasn’t just drained classroom resources, it has divided our communities. It has created a system of winners and losers, where some kids get what they need and others are left behind. And yesterday, Legislative Republicans insisted that the broken status quo continue.
