MADISON – On Tuesday evening, Governor Tony Evers delivered his 2025 State Budget Address to a joint convention of the Legislature. After the address, Representative Karen Hurd (R-Withee) issued the following statement:

“After listening to Governor Evers deliver his budget address, I cannot help but be disappointed. The budget the governor unveiled was more of a Madison liberal wish list than a viable state budget proposal. While I did hear a few areas where I hope we can find some common ground, such as providing middle-class tax relief, much of what I heard is out of touch with the priorities of the people I was elected to represent in the 69th Assembly District.

“I am troubled that the governor is proposing to create a number of ongoing spending obligations using our state’s budget surplus. While Wisconsin currently has just over a $4 billion surplus, much of this is one-time money that cannot be relied upon to fund expenses beyond the two-year budget. As a member of the Joint Finance Committee (JFC), I look forward to listening to the people of Wisconsin in the weeks ahead about what their priorities are for our state’s two-year spending plan. I will use this feedback as a guide as I work with my JFC colleagues to craft a state budget that is fiscally responsible and funds the priorities of the people of Wisconsin.”
