MADISON- Today, Legislative Democrats introduced the Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package to help working families across our state. The three-bill package would reduce the tax burden for low-income renters and homeowners by expanding the Homestead Tax Credit, cut the costs of grocery bills for families by enacting Healthy School Meals for All, and decrease prescription drug prices through our Less for Rx agenda.
Rep. Hysell (D- Sun Prairie) released the following statement regarding the package:
“As legislators, it’s our job to serve those that sent us here. People from every corner of Wisconsin have clearly spoken that we, the legislature, need to take action to lower the cost of living. Today, as a Democratic caucus, we are delivering for working families. Our Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package will ensure all Wisconsinites have the freedom, opportunity, and economic security to thrive.
“One part of the package, the Healthy School Meals for All, will guarantee that all Wisconsin families have access to affordable healthy school lunches, saving the average family $154 a month per child, or $1848 annually, per school year.
“I am particularly proud to introduce Healthy School Meals for All as a long-time supporter of healthy food for kids. During my work at Save the Children, United States Programs, I advocated on behalf of the federal Hunger-Free Kids Act which provided access to healthy, affordable foods in school. Our Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package is concrete state policy that will help folks around our Wisconsin. I am proud to be part of the effort to lower costs for all of our residents.”
