MADISON- On July 4th, Donald Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”, which ends FoodShare and Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites. In response, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) released a statement warning of the bill’s devastating impact and giving Wisconsinites practical steps to protect themselves as much as possible.

In response, Rep. Hysell (D- Sun Prairie) released the following statement:

“Trump and the Wisconsin Congressional Republicans cut healthcare and food assistance for Wisconsinites with their new ‘Big Beautiful Bill Act’. The bill is aptly named in so far as it provides a ‘beautiful’ tax cut to the wealthy while passing the ‘bill’ onto the average Wisconsin worker and taxpayer.

“1 in 5 Wisconsinites receive health care coverage through Wisconsin’s Medicaid programs and half of Wisconsin Medicaid members are children. In the 48th Assembly District, 1 out of every 3 children receive their healthcare through this program. Cuts will therefore inevitably harm children and their families. In fact, the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee estimates that a total of 276,175 Wisconsinites will lose health care coverage under this ‘beautiful’ bill.

“Simultaneously, the Republican budget bill creates a record deficit through extending tax cuts for the rich which will undermine Social Security, Medicaid, and increase prices for consumers who are already hurting. The ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ is not what people voted for last November and this betrayal of Wisconsinites’ values and financial interests will not be soon forgotten.”
