MADISON, WI – Today, State Representative Brent Jacobson (R – Mosinee) joined his colleagues in the WI Assembly in voting to pass Senate Joint Resolution 2. If approved by statewide referendum, this legislation will amend the Wisconsin Constitution to require photographic identification when voting. Representative Jacobson issued the following statement:
“I’m proud to join my fellow State Representatives and put this amendment to the voters,” said Rep. Jacobson. “When my constituents go to the polls, they should have the utmost confidence that they are casting their vote in an election that is fair and without fraud. Today’s vote is an important step in enshrining election integrity.”
“Wisconsin’s voting ID requirements has been the law of the land since for over a decade. It has withstood thorough legal scrutiny, and the latest polls show an overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites support showing a photo ID to vote. However, we have already seen that an activist court can reverse legally settled decisions. By passing this resolution, we are giving the voters a chance to avoid relitigating this issue.”
