MADISON, WI – Today in the Assembly, State Representative Brent Jacobson (R – Mosinee) joined his Republican colleagues and voted to pass a package of legislation focusing on public safety in our schools and communities, and improving Wisconsin’s criminal justice system. Rep. Jacobson issued the following statement on this package:
Rep. Brent Jacobson authored two of the bills which passed in today’s Assembly Session:
- AB 66 would require a prosecutor to get court approval to dismiss or amend 7 criminal charges, including sexual assault, crimes against a child, or illegal possession of a firearm by a felon. This bill also prohibits prosecutors from entering into deferred prosecution agreements for those 7 charges.
- AB 85 would require agents of the Department of Corrections to recommend revoking a convicted criminal’s parole, probation, or extended release if they are charged with a new crime while on state supervision.
“I am all for giving people a second chance,” said Rep. Jacobson. “However, it is unacceptable to give repeat criminals the opportunity to continue to put our families and neighbors at risk again and again without facing consequences. As state representatives, we owe it to our constituents to keep them from being victimized by repeat offenders.”
