MADISON – Representative Jenna Jacobson (D-Oregon) released the following statement following passage of the 2025-27 Wisconsin Biennial Budget:

“I am disappointed by how this budget was written, passed, and how it will now impact our entire state. Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee began their work on the budget by removing over 600 items that invested in Wisconsin, and then sat on their hands for 54 days. Over that time, the public was kept in the dark. On July 1, we finally got to see what they were up to.

“This budget has no general education increase for schools over the next two years. This will force school districts to continue to go to referendum and raise our property taxes. This budget does not fund childcare in order to keep provider doors open and lower costs for families. And this budget does not include any additional funding for the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program. We can do better.

“Over the last 54 days we have seen how our government should not work. We can do better and we should all expect more to improve our state. At a time when our district needs real relief from everyday costs, and has real concerns about our budget, waiting until the last minute and forcing a budget through, does not meet the moment. We can do better.”
