Wisconsin Assembly meets with six days left in the fiscal year and without a budget
MADISON – The Wisconsin State Assembly met with less than a week left in the fiscal year. Representative Alex Joers (D-Waunakee) spoke about several legislative proposals that were passed today without the required funding. While Legislative Republicans still do not have a budget ready, they allege the funding will come later in the process.
“Wisconsinites are expected to pay their bills on time; Legislative Republicans should do the same. After months of back and forth, Legislative Republicans gave up on passing a budget on time because of the infighting amongst themselves. Instead, they’ve begun passing all of their bills without any money. They are attempting to start grant programs with zero dollars for grants.
“Wisconsinites are fed up with the fiscal irresponsibility of Legislative Republicans. Republicans control both houses of the legislature, so it is up to them to pass a budget on time. If they need help, they know where to find Democratic votes, but they’ll have to actually pay their bills.
“Wisconsinites want lower costs, affordable child care, well-resourced schools, and access to health care. These are not unreasonable policies for us to achieve, it will just take Legislative Republicans listening to the people instead of ultra-right-wing politicians.”
