MADISON – Today, the formation of and appointments to four new legislative task forces were announced. Representative Alex Joers (D-Waunakee) was appointed Vice Chair of the Legislative Task Force on Protecting Kids.
The task force is set to consider several aspects of today’s digital age on youth development, including the impacts of social media on mental and physical health, the benefits and consequences of unlimited and unrestricted internet access, and the risks and dangers associated with a child’s online presence. The task force is charged with discussing, debating, and eventually proposing legislative options to address these topics.
In response to the appointment, Representative Joers issued the following statement:
“As the father of two young kids, the safety and protection of Wisconsin’s children is at the forefront of my mind. I am grateful to be appointed Vice Chair of this task force, and sincerely look forward to engaging in good-faith dialogue and policy debate with my colleagues. The Legislative Task Force on Protecting Kids is intended to propose legislative steps our state government can take to protect kids and better equip parents to keep their children safe in an expansive digital age. I trust that we will work together towards our shared vision of a safer Wisconsin for the next generation.”
