(Madison) – After the state budget passed the Assembly by a vote of 59-39, Rep. Krug issued the following statement:

ā€œI’m proud of what we were able to get done for the state of Wisconsin last night. In a divided government, the Republican legislature fought for tax relief, common sense reforms and funding, and fiscal responsibility. The budget we passed today delivers on those values.

ā€œWe delivered $1.5 billion in ongoing tax relief for Wisconsin families and seniors, made significant investments in special education funding and childcare, increased funding to ensure criminals are held accountable, and made important reforms in the UW System.

As we have seen with the President’s America First agenda, the budget we passed last night also protects hundreds of family-supporting union jobs at paper mills in Nekoosa and Rothschild. I am extremely proud of the work we did to support our economy and jobs right here in central Wisconsin. Seeing closure after closure in the industry, it was a priority to stand up and say enough is enough. The hardworking families of central Wisconsin are the backbone of our communities, our schools, and every municipal economy.

This budget puts our communities first, and I’m glad to see it signed into law.
