MADISON, Wis. – Representative Miresse (D-Stevens Point) released the following statement after floor session.
“Today on the floor, we voted on numerous bills that lacked any dedicated funding. Republicans assured us that the funding for these new programs would be included in the state budget. But with the fiscal year ending soon, and Legislative Republicans walking away from budget negotiations, how can anyone be confident that this funding will arrive on time?”
“Without funding, these bills are purely cosmetic—lipstick on a pig. Wisconsin doesn’t need more lipstick; we need more pig. We need a real budget that strengthens our public schools and universities, invests in childcare, supports our farmers, and protects clean water.”
“It’s time for Republicans to make a choice: work with us in good faith to pass a responsible, bipartisan budget, or continue to cater to the extreme wing of their caucus and risk throwing our state’s budget process into chaos.”
