MADISON, Wis. – Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly voted on Assembly Bill 265, which increases the penalties for human trafficking in our state. The bill passed unanimously on a voice vote. Just minutes later, the Assembly voted on a resolution calling for the release of the Epstein files. That resolution failed along party lines; all Democrats voted in favor of releasing the files, while all Republicans voted against it.

Representative Miresse (D-Stevens Point) released the following statement after floor session.

“I was heartened by today’s vote for AB 265, which passed unanimously in true bipartisan fashion— Republicans and Democrats agree that increasing the penalty for human trafficking is the right move for Wisconsin. Yet, when Democrats demanded the release of the Epstein files, so that the list of powerful, well-connected, traffickers and pedophiles could be made public and held accountable, not a single Republican joined my Democratic colleagues and I in supporting transparency and justice. It makes me wonder, how committed are Republicans to protecting Wisconsinites from the horrors of human trafficking after all?”
