Madison, WI — Today, Governor Tony Evers announced he will not be seeking re-election in 2026. Rep. Vincent Miresse (D-Stevens Point) released the following statement in response to Governor Tony Evers’ announcement:
“Governor Evers brought decency, steadiness, and moral clarity at a time when Wisconsin needed it most. He defeated Scott Walker ending the Republican trifecta and era of extreme partisan governance, held the line against Republican legislative overreach, and governed with compassion and pragmatism. His leadership will be remembered for restoring trust in government and fighting for what’s right—especially when it wasn’t easy.”
“Early on in this term, after a hoax bomb scare stole a fourth-grade class’s civics filed trip to the Capitol away from them, Governor Evers joined me in visiting that class. We worked together to turn this unfortunate experience into something special and memorable for the kids. It is this type of awareness and steadfastness that sets Governor Evers apart from other leaders.”
“I look forward to seeing the next generation of leaders step forward to build on the robust foundation laid by Governor Evers, and to lead our state with a bold vision of progress to a more prosperous future”
