MADISON, Wis. — Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement following floor session:

“One thing is abundantly clear about this budget process: fair maps, and more Democratic voices in the legislature, have made a real difference in the budget process. I am thankful that Governor Evers and Senator Hesselbein were at the negotiating table and were able to secure some wins for the people of Wisconsin.

“But this proposal is a far cry from the budget that Assembly Democrats would have written.

“Assembly Democrats are clear about our priorities. We need significant investments in our public schools, our child care centers, and so much more. I voted no today because the needs of my district are not met in this legislation.

“But soon, things will be different around here. When Democrats are in control, we will really listen to the people of Wisconsin, and we will enact their will. And until that day, we take this small step forward, and then the next.

“We will keep working until we realize our vision for Wisconsin, where everyone has the ability to have a good job, to spend time with their kids, to take their sick parents to the doctor and not have it break the bank, to go on vacation every once in a while, and save for retirement. Wisconsinites aren’t asking for a lot, but what they are asking for, they deserve.”
