MADISON, Wis. — Today, Governor Tony Evers announced that due to the federal government shutdown, Wisconsin’s FoodShare program, which provides food assistance to more than 700,000 people in our state, will run out of funding at the end of the month. That means more than 260,000 kids under 18 will miss out on food assistance in November. After the announcement, Rep. Greta Neubauer released the following statement:
“First and foremost, I want people to know where they can go to find food assistance while the shutdown affects the FoodShare program.
- Wisconsinites can visit the 211 Wisconsin Website or call 877-947-2211 to find out about food assistance programs near them.
- Residents of Racine County can visit one of our local food banks for assistance or find meal sites by entering their zip code through Feeding America:
“People all over our state rely on help from FoodShare to put food on the table. But as Trump’s shutdown continues and families in Wisconsin worry about where their next meal will come from, the president is starting a $250 million renovation on the White House. That’s just plain wrong, and it’s part of a long-term strategy by the president to cut critical services for Americans while serving himself and his wealthy friends.
“Hundreds of thousands of kids in Wisconsin might miss out on meals in November. But Trump and Republicans remain uninterested in helping them.
“While this continues, Democrats are looking at every possible avenue to help our families in the immediate term.”
